i believe its little dogs b/c they dont get joint probs and heart probs as much….
The best dogs are mutts! I have two pure breeds and two mutts. The pure breeds stay in the vet more than the mutts.
Any pure breed is going to have its own health issues. In my experience, mutts have the least health problems. Labs and Goldens also tend to be fairly healthy, but with any pure breed, you have to know how healthy the parents are.
In response to the first answer, small dogs are not healthier, they may live longer, but they have all kinds of health problems. Eyes, ears, heart, and because they are small, their teeth cause all different kinds of health problems.
Well Beagles don’t Usually have health probs. If you are looking for a dog they are all going to have health problems not depending the breed. I reccomend A greyhound because they are usually Short haired so You wont have a shedding Problem and their only problem is they are skinny so you have to keep them on a good diet so they dont become too skinny.
Try a cockapoo. Here’s a link to a description of the breed.
mutt dogs will have the least health problems due to the fact that they are not inbread like all purebreed dogs are. Purebreeds are mated with dogs that have similar genes so that they can control the genes that they want like hair color and bone structure. However they also get alot of health issues do to the fact that they get alot of ressesive genes that are bad. If you are looking for a hypoallergenic dog that is purebreed I would suggest poodles. but a mut will have the least health issues because it will have such a variety of genes it will be less likely to get the very bad ones. Besides it is better to get a dog from the pound. you will be saving a life. I have heard of horrible things about people breeding dogs for special genes and traits. One puppy out of a litter might have the genes the breeder wants and some will have such horrible health problems that they will not live out the week. I have heard of puppies born with no legs, with bones that crumple the minute they are born, and dogs that are horribly deformed. Mutts are just as good if not better then purebreeds. Most people think that if its not a special breed then dont even give it a chance. People who like those little dogs with smooshed faces dont realize that they can develop problems that can make it hard to breath. And people that buy certain breeds like german shepards dont realize that because they are made to have the hind legs lower then the front that causes hip problems. I am not saying that purebreeds are horrible and bad but if you are going to get a dog just because you dont want to spend a lot of money on it you might as well get a mutt and save its life. good luck on the doggy search.
Try the local toy store. They have plenty of stuffed animals.
Dogs cost money. Lots of money. If you can’t afford to take care of them properly do not get a dog. You’ll just end up breaking the dogs heart when you kill him or when you give him up for someone else to kill him because you don’t have the compassion to do it yourself.
Please do not get a dog! It would be cruel.
Greyhounds are a great choice.
They are bred for racing and that means that the breeder only breeds for the best + healthiest pippies he can get.
you can adopt former racing greyhounds for relatively cheap ($250-$350 CDN) they come trained, spayed/neutered, and vet checked.
the best thing is that they are non allergenic and they don’t tend to shed much they don’t have that “dog smell” because their bodies don’t produce the oil that causes that smell. they are screened by their foster moms before they get sent out for adoption. they’re basically couch potatos
the downside is that they are pretty heat/cold sensitive and although they are cat type personalities they are very large dogs. you can’t leave them outside alone because they are sight hounds and will chase things
While I know that the aphorism that mutts are healthier than purebred dogs is a popular one, it happens to be completely untrue. When bred carefully by a responsible
breeder, a purebred is less likely to exhibit health issues because those breeders work extremely hard to eradicate them from the breed. They will eliminate any dog from their breeding program who manifests them or whose
ANCESTORS, (on their pedigree) have manifested or produced them in their offspring. Responsible breeders also do health screenings and genetic testing on their dogs. Research your breeds and be sure to only support responsible breeders.
Some breeds that are commonly considered hypoallergenic are:
Bichon Frise
Poodle
Wheaten Terrier
Bearded Collie.
Here are some suggested questions one can use to determine if a breeder is truly responsible:
1. Is she an AKC registered breeder of good standing and an active member of her breed Parent Club?
2. Are there AKC Champions listed on the pedigree, showing that the breeder spends her time & money to prove the quality of her breeding stock through competition?
3. Are all the animals kept in clean, comfortable, healthy, loving circumstances?
4. Did the breeder conduct extensive interviews with you and every member of your family?
5. Have the sire & dam received all available health clearances, (eg. OFA Hip & Eye, Thyroid testing, THESE VARY FOR EACH BREED)
6. Is she willing to honestly discuss any possible genetic defects that may exist in her line?
7. Does she have a Sales Contract?
8. Does the contract contain a clause stipulating that you spay or neuter the puppy before it reaches a certain
age?
9. Does the contract contain a clause stating that if at any time in the puppy’s life, you can no longer care for it, it must be returned to the breeder? (This ensures that no animal bred by this breeder will ever end up in a shelter).
10. Will the breeder maintain contact with you for the life of the puppy to answer questions and help in general?
Well all does have some form of health problems. If you are now sure what type will fit you best you can go to the shelter and see their placement manager and fill out a form and see if thy have anything you would like. Also go to
Well, K beat me to it. It is NOT true that mutts are healthier, I’ve been working with dogs for 25 years and I’ve seen just as many mutts with health problems as purebreds.
Your best bet is a well-bred purebred from a responsible, ethical, serious breeder that researches pedigrees and does health testing. This is not a guarantee, after all we are dealing with living creatures, but your chances are much better.
